For this post, I want to get into the most significant issue young Officials face on ice abuse.
Hockey officials play an essential role in minor hockey games. They are responsible for ensuring that the game is played moderately and safely. They also help teach young players about the game’s rules and how to play it properly.
IT CAN TAKE MANY FORMS
Unfortunately, many hockey officials experience abuse from players, coaches, and parents. This abuse can take many forms, including verbal, physical, and even death threats. This can be especially difficult for young officials who are still learning the game and may not have the experience or confidence to deal with this kind of abuse. It is also the number one reason why Hockey of all ages is struggling to find and keep officials.
It is essential to protect hockey officials from abuse so that they can continue to do their job effectively.
This includes providing the training and support they need to handle difficult situations and creating a culture of respect and sportsmanship in minor hockey.
It’s about creating a Culture Everywhere.

A culture of respect and sportsmanship in minor hockey can be achieved by promoting fair play, respect for opponents, and positive attitudes. Coaches must lead by example and instill the importance of sportsmanship in their players1.
Fans and parents have to do their part also.
