Adam is a Level 2 referee in minor hockey and a men’s league referee. He has been around hockey, with family roots in NHL officiating.
He created the refcoach.ca system to address the lack of resources for mentoring officials and incidents of abuse towards referees, particularly in rural areas.
Adam saw the need for a system to help give referees at all levels of hockey the tools to build resilience and skill to handle all the trials and tribulations that officiating in hockey can present.
He knows how hard it is to be a ref, especially when some people get angry or violent. He wanted to help other refs deal with the stress and challenges of the job, so he created refcoach.ca.
It’s a website that teaches refs how to be more confident, calm and skilled on the ice. Adam thinks that refs deserve respect and support, and he hopes his website will make a difference for them.
